Located between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan,  known as “Sea of islands”, the Aral Sea has been shrinking since the 1960s, from 67,000 square kilometers at its peak to 3,000. Researches have been conducted to figure out the process of changes and why it is shrinking, and solutions for sustainable development in the Aral Sea Basin.
